What is Longridge? An outdoor activity centre which provides activities that encourage young people from all walks of life and of all abilities to develop water skills as well as leadership, self-discipline, confidence and respect for themselves and others. We recently bought the freehold of the site, to save the site from being gobbled up by developers. To achieve this we raised some funds through fundraising but also borrowed £800,000 through a commercial loan. We are now faced with the challenge of paying down the bank borrowings and improving our very tired buildings whilst retaining the charm of this unique riverside site We appeared on People's Millions on November 26th and where totally delighted to win the public vote. This is a lottery programme, broadcast on the regional news at 6pm where two charities go head to head for the public vote. The grant awarded of £90,000 allows us to build a high ropes course and adventure playground for younger children. This is a vital new activity as it will enable us to open our magical facility to more young people for more of the year. We aim to have these new activities open by May 2008 and our huge thanks to the hundreds of thousands of you that voted. A Unique facility which changes livesIdyllically situated on the banks of the Thames near Marlow. Longridge is the only facility of its kind in the South East of England that allows young people to enjoy - in a controlled and safe enviromemt - a variety of watercraft, from gigs to canoes. In 2007 we had 28,000 annual users. Your donation would help double this number by 2010.Over our 50 year history, Longridge has introduced hundreds of thousands of young people to the pleasure of boating. Many of these young people have gone on to become prominent sports persons, winning international medals.
